Letter addressed to Manuel Bilbao.
Octavo, 1 sheet, Handwritten. Exemplar in good condition. It is accompanied by the book "Letters from Bilbao to Sarmiento" (Buenos Aires. Rural Printing. 1875).
A holographic manuscript by Sarmiento, undated, addressed to Manuel Bilbao, and the brochure that Sarmiento himself gave to the press with his opinion on the recipient of this letter -with whom he starred in an intense public controversy- and transcribed the letters that Bilbao to him sent, make up the whole.
Always sharp and precise, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento gives numerous clues about his public conduct in print, all in defense of the accusations made by Bilbao. For example, he alludes to his decision to move away from Buenos Aires after the Battle of Caseros, and explains that in a previous letter sent from Montevideo, he assured that “after the battle in which we would infallibly defeat Rosas, I would return to Chile, because I did not see how "to make a homeland with Urquiza who was already showing his ears" in proof of this my wife was waiting for me in Valparaíso".
