Church of Santa Rosa in Guatemala. 1902.

Gelatin silver print -12.1 x 19.5 cm / 4.76 x 7.67 in- on plain matte weight paper. Good copy, it is displayed framed.

After the terrible earthquake that Guatemala suffered on April 18, 1902, whose epicenter was located in the Quetzaltenango Department, neighboring the Capital, the entire population devoted itself to shoring and cleaning tasks, with the removal of "mountains" of rubble.

In this photographic record -which bears the number 68- we can appreciate the great damage inflicted by the earthquake on the Church of Santa Rosa. In front of the photographic chronicler, a crew of more than 30 laborers led by a foreman works, who with shovels, picks and hoes, clear the area around the Catholic temple.

The contact copy of this gelatin silver print shows us the black edges of the operation and, curiously, the laboratory worker's fingerprint.
