BAphoto - live 2020

Vélez Sarsfield store. Buenos Aires. 1912.

Gelatin silver print toned in sepia and mounted on rigid vintage cardboard, measures: 8.1 x 29.4 cm / 3.18 x 11.57 in. On the back there is a damp date stamp: "Dec. 12, 1912". In excellent condition.

Excellent panoramic view that allows us to appreciate this typical neighborhood scene, at the beginning of the 20th century. We imagine that the owners of this store hired a photographer specializing in panoramic records, whose visual effect magnified said retail. Perhaps the subject on the right, with hat and suitcase in hand, is the photographer himself.

In front of the entrance of the shop, in the center of the shot, a group of eleven people pose in front of the camera, among which are a policeman, neighbors and young boys, and the owners of the store with an employee. Starting from this center, two vanishing points give us a wide view of the neighborhood. On the left, Avellaneda street, one of its main arteries, with its wide sidewalk and well-cared for trees, is double-handed, and shows the tram power lines that can be seen in the distance. To the right, Bahía Blanca street, with its lush trees. A few passersby witness the calm of midday.

We emphasize that in the field of Argentine photography panoramic views are really scarce.
