ONE IMAGE, A THOUSAND STORIES

Echesortu Hospice of the Franciscan Fathers of Propaganda Fide. Rosario. 1902.

Vintage print on gelatin silver paper, toned in sepia. Measurements: 23.7 x 29.5 cm. Copy in good condition. The work is displayed framed.

The Hospice - actually a small convent - was created around 1891 in what was already known as Barrio Echesortu in the city of Rosario, which, at that time, was an area of country houses and brick works with popular characteristics, which was transformed from 1907 with the arrival of the tram. Next to this Hospice -residence of the religious and their assistants- the Franciscans founded in 1894 the Colegio de San Francisco Solano, which was built with the help of the neighborhood.

We must point out that, the old architecture photographs dedicated to the recording of interiors were not very common during that period; although in the first place we are facing what is considered as Medical Photography. In this exceptional record, we appreciate the well-cared internal courtyard of that hospital in Santa Fe, with its large central water fountain, where a curious group of 19 people poses in different planes, some of them wearing hats and in different attitudes in front of the large wooden chamber. . We rescued the figures of two convalescents with head bandages, a martial policeman, the street vendor with the classic basket on his arm and the only girl -who unfortunately moved- with her toy car; The almost stereoscopic picture is completed by administrative employees and even a doctor leaning on the large vase.

An unusual size photograph that shows the building consolidation of the Hospice headquarters at the beginning of the 20th century.
